Electric Guitar Accessories You Need to Keep Playing Guitar For Real

Your first electric guitar accessories are Picks. Get a variety to start with. After a while you'll end up sticking with a certain kind that feels right to you. Then, you get more of those. Reason: picks like to travel. They tend to like going through the washing and drying of your clothes. This doesn't harm them. They also "just disappear!" Some players will leave one on their guitar wedged in the strings.

Next, you'll need a cord so you can PLUG into either an amplifier or a headphone amp.
Just get a instrument cord long enough. Usually 20 feet long will do. Any longer and you start to lose sound quality in a hurry. I've always heard that 18 feet is the longest you want to go before this happens. Only thing is you sometimes only have a choice of 15 feet or 20 feet cords. Make sure you get an "instrument cable, not a speaker cable. There is a difference! (By the way, Cable and Cord mean the same.)
ALL IN ONE PEDALS! These babies are the greatest electric guitar accessories. There many types available, but this particular one has a tuner built in. It also has all the effects and amps preset so you can sound like all different kinds of guitar players. You know, the ones you like the most. I'll bet their sound, or something real close is in here. I used this to play a huge variety of cover music in many clubs. This, and an amp, a strap with locks, a cord and picks were all I needed. These can also be used with headphones or earbuds, so you can practice to your hearts content with everyone sitting around the tv. You won't bother them. All they will hear is your strings, and electric strings won't be that loud at all. Great way to be in a room full of people and still be off in your world. You don't always have to practice alone in your room. This model doesn't run on batteries, but a smaller one without the rocker pedal does. You can take it anywhere!! I recommend these for everyone starting to play electric guitar for real. (Notice the headphone jack.)

There are many Amplifiers you can use for electric guitars. Eventually, amps are more than just electric guitar accessories. It won't be long after you been practicing a while, that an amp becomes the other half of the electric guitar. The cable will marry the two. I'm only going to recommend one thing at this point. When you are ready to play with others, you'll need an amp that is at least 30 watts loud to keep up with a drummer. You'll need at least a 12 inch speaker to play to small crowds and clubs. Two 10 inch speakers instead, will do fine. Any smaller than these two requirements and it will be hard for others to hear you. If you do use a small 30 watt; 12 inch combo amp, you should put it up on a sturdy chair. Not only will you be able to hear yourself but, it will help your amp project out better. P.S. I will not go into the tubes versus solid state amp debate here. We'll save that for later.
Now, you'll want to get a Strap. ( Remember what I said about straplocks on the previous page!)

This can be your chance to express yourself with some color or graphics if you want. They can get expensive and can make great gifts. (hint, hint) P.S. There are always new electric guitar accessories coming out that would be considered optional for the beginner. Maybe I'll make some pages, about those I try and think are good, in the future. Sounds like a good possibility. For now we have more important things to learn about. Like changing dirty, dead or broken strings.
