About Guitar For Real
About guitar for real. On the Home page I explain "why" this site came about, but people also want to know, "who is this guy"?

I am Brian Sullivan. I've been playing guitar since age 12. That adds up to 38 years of experiences. I started by learning and practicing the exact same material we have here for you. Beginning with an acoustic guitar, playing in church services became the first goal. The leader of that group was a teacher for "folk" guitar and vocals. She had put together a homemade book of 200 songs she had figured out. She insisted we learned all of them. Despite my lack of a decent voice at the time, she let me play in the group when I turned 14. Moving on to electric guitar I became a professional at age 15. By that, I mean being paid to play. The other members ages ranged from 18 to 34. We were a good cover band that played many clubs and colleges. As club owners discovered my age, it became difficult for the band to get hired. They had to have everyone in the band over 18. So I was out. Eventually, with some friends from high school, we formed a popular rock band. (A familiar story, I'm sure!) We called it Equinox. What a blast! We played all over Southern California with national touring bands, playing a lot of colleges and universities. Great pay and great fun! We also performed for many high school dances as well. We played Kiss, the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Hendrix, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin and many more. We also started creating our own music. I believe that should be every musician's long term goal. People grow and move on, and so did we. I attended college where my first student found me. He was so driven that it took him one month of, "hour a day practice", to learn all the chords you see here. He also wrote an original song for an upcoming talent contest. He performed alone, just him and his acoustic guitar. I performed in the same contest doing a duet with a good female vocalist-flute player. We did okay but, his song, attitude and ability, stole that show. He won! I was proud! Since then, I've done studio work, and been in many club bands. Like many others, I've had to work music around my day job. My passion for learning never stops. Therefore, I have books and magazines in every corner of my house. I've read them all cover to cover 5-10 times each. I can't seem to get enough! One thing I always seem to do is, make my own music. I've done this since day one. You can do this too. Take whatever you learn to help you make the guitar "talk" with your voice.
Special Thank You:I need to thank my brother and sister in law for giving me the idea, to help others. I enjoy answering the questions of those starting their journey. My main goal is to help you avoid some bad judgment and increase the good experiences you'll have on your way.
